Belfast’s New Wastewater System
28 August 2009
Two Rotrex Winches customers have a joint venture to build, test and commission a 9.4km tunnel of 4.2m diameter under Belfast city centre to the Duncrue waste water treatment works.
This contract also involves the construction of a pumping station housed inside a 40m diameter underground structure along with a 6,000 sq mtr stormwater tank.
This £91.8 million contract is to upgrade the City’s sewage and waste water systems to reduce the risk of flooding. This modernisation will improve both the water quality of the local River Lagan and other watercourses.
On this site the contractors have a hired Rotrex 6.5t Colt base mounted hydraulic winch complete with a control stand and 200m of wire rope. The winch is used to pull equipment out of the tunnel at various stages during construction.
