Rotrex pulls 60 tonne in Liverpool

14 June 2009

It is rare to find a 3metre by 5 metre blue monster of a winch standing 3 metres high, capable of pulling 60 tonnes in the middle of a residential street.

But that is what greeted residents of one street in Prescott, Merseyside recently after Rotrex Winches supplied an SP60 Hydraulic Base Mounted Winch with a 60 ton line pull capacity and fitted with 700 metres of 52mm diameter wire rope, to a contractor in Ellesmere Port. Along with an Iveco 80 kW Diesel Hydraulic Power Pack to power the winch and two 4 ton Omac trailer winches with 700 metre of rope.

The contractor had to renew a 4.1km section of a 44” pipe which runs from Liverpool Road, Prescot, close to the junction with the M57, and onto Dovecot Parade in Liverpool. This work is part of a £7 million investment programme that will deliver major improvements to an old cast-iron water pipe in Knowsley and Liverpool. The work involves slip lining the old cast iron pipe with new PE pipe and is expected to be completed by September / October 2009.

Rotrex Winches’ fleet of base mounted winches extends from 600kg pulling capacity up to 200 tonnes. Used for many diverse applications, including offshore work such as riser pull-ins, BoP installations, barge mooring, flare tip replacement, platform and FPSO lifting. Whether driven by diesel hydraulic or electric hydraulic power packs, Rotrex Winches can supply the appropriate winches, power packs, wire ropes and such ancillary equipment as sheave blocks, fairleads, in-line load monitors and many other items to provide the complete winch system package.
