Tailor-Made: Hoist servicing and certification by Rotrex Winches

20 July 2011

Following Rotrex Winches’ work on Pirates of the Caribbean IV highlighted in our last newsletter, we have been on-call to the film industry yet again.

Rotrex Winches were contacted by the production company involved in the making of the big screen adaptation of John Le Carre’s espionage thriller “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”, starring Gary Oldman and Oscar-winner Colin Firth.

Their problem was the electric hoists in the main film studio, which did not have valid test certificates and needed servicing along with other equipment. The time constraints imposed by their client further exacerbated their troubles.

Rotrex Winches’ engineers from their depot in Rainham, Essex were available to meet the exacting timetable and carried out the work on site, accessing the hoists using a 22 metre boom Mobile Elevated Work Platform.

Despite the wealth of British thespian talent on display, with John Hurt, Tom Hardy and Sherlock Holmes actor Benedict Cumberbatch all present; our men managed to refrain from spying on the stars and completed the work in time to the great satisfaction of the client.
Our client was so impressed by our work that they have committed  to continue using Rotrex for all future servicing and testing – Smileys all round!
