Thompson is one of LGH Winches Sales' flagship brands, designed and built at our ISO 9001 rated sister company in Newcastle Upon Tyne, products are supported through the nation-wide network of engineers from LGH Winches Service.

LGH Winches Sales high Ievel of customer service involves the marrying of nearly 30 years of winching expertise and experience, with ISO 9000 systems, and a client focus, to ensure our customers receive the best service possible. Sales personnel will carry out site visits to assess customer needs. Our trained engineers can advise on necessary repairs and maintenance and our senior managers tour the world to ensure our product range is always at the forefront of winching systems.

History

Thompson has a long history of building quality winches for the utilities industries stretching back over 75 years. In the beginning the Thompson Brothers set out building winches for the London Electricity Company from its work- shops in Woolwich London. During the 1930's Thompson became a major supplier of cable winches to the General Post Office, and today they are still supplying winches to British Telecom and their contractors. The 30's also saw the start of Thompson breaking into the Commercial Vehicle Industry by developing their now world Famous range of rugged hand winches.

The out break of the Second World War saw Thompson as a major supplier to the Ministry of Defence. They built many thousands of vehicle and tank recovery winches. Along with specially designed hand winches for lowering army rafts into rivers and For erecting Pontoon Bridges during the Burma Campaign.

More recently the Thompson brand has become synonymous with trailer mounted winches used extensively throughout the Utilities industries. Underground and overhead, Thompson have been long-term leaders in winch design for cable hauling applications and overhead line stringing. Pipe laying, and pipe replacement. With in-excess of 30,000 units built, the Thompson name is a watchword for quality and durable workmanship.

The Thompson brand was acquired by LGH Winches Sales, part LGH Group plc in the early 1990's. The technological advances of recent years demand a new approach to cable pulling and once more Thompson have risen to the challenge.
