Rotrex Winches help to bring drinking water back to the people of North East England.

A 100 year old underground fresh water pipe bringing drinking water from a reservoir in the hills to the population of the North East of England fractured and developed a major leak. The pipe had fractured at a point where it emerges from the ground to cross a bridge over a river near to the town of Barnard Castle.

Northumbrian Water decided that a plastic liner should be placed inside the existing 600mm diameter pipe to affect a reliable and permanent repair while leaving no lasting visual impact of the work.

We at Rotrex Winches developed a specialised connector to enable 50 metres of the new plastic pipe to be successfully pulled inside the elderly cast iron pipe. The pull was achieved using a 3 tonne OMAC trailer winch hired from Rotrex Winches. Both Northumbrian Water and the Contractor were delighted with the solution developed by Rotrex Winches and by the way the plastic pipe was quickly and easily pulled into place.

Here’s to another 100 years of delivering fresh water to the population of Tyne and Wear!
