As well as being one of the tallest and newest buildings built in London in recent years, it is also the most iconic, sitting on the south side of London Bridge close to overground and underground stations. As part of development work on the site, we were contacted to supply a winch to help install new 400m water pipes to supply The Shard and the surrounding area including Guys hospital. This was a complicated project for two main reasons. One was due to the proximity of heavy traffic and footfall of pedestrians in the area meaning that traffic management severely restricted the size of the working area. But the second and larger problem was that the London Bridge area was heavily bombed during WW2 and reinstatement works were never carried out properly. This meant that most of the underground utilities were in a very uneven state, making new pipes difficult to install.
However our incredibly skilled engineers, along with the Project Manager, were able to come up with a solution for installing the pipes successfully. This is a project that really showcases that as well as being a specialist for the sales and hire of winching and lifting equipment, we also provide incredible technical support to our customers to enable them to complete even very complicated projects.
